Facebook Ready To Monetize Messenger

Facebook will Monetize from Facebook as early as 2016.

Facebook Inc. is all set to add advertisements in the form of messaging on its app, Messenger. The feature will surface quite early- actually next quarter as per reports by TechCrunch.

The speculation surfaced when the social media giant came up with a bunch of new features for WhatsApp and Messenger over the past 12 months. These features were devoted to assist businesses with consumer interactions via Messenger.

Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive officer at Facebook is extremely open with investors regarding the company’s plans to monetize Messenger. This will be the first step by the company to start making money out of Messenger.

The question here arises, how the company will do so.

Josh Constine and Jon Russell, the authors at TechCrunch mentioned last week that, “A leaked document Facebook sent to some of its biggest advertisers reveals that Facebook will launch ads within Messenger in Q2 2016.”

The document as per TechCrunch highlighted that the company’s core advertiser will be able to “send ads as messages to people who previously initiated a chat thread with that company.” Other than this, the document is also encouraging business to increase their interaction with Messenger while dealing with consumers so that they can extract maximum benefit from the message like ads when the product is launched.

To allow buisnesses to start interaction with users, the company has come up with a new URL for each page devoted to open a message direction between businesses and consumers.

So far Facebook has not denied about the news to TechCrunch but has not even confirmed about it.

The company claims that they do not pass comments on mere speculations and rumors. The company’s agenda with Messenger is to establish a high end and interactive experience for 800 million users across the globe. Moreover, another thing that the company needs to be concerned about is that these message styled advertisements do not become annoying for consumers.

It needs to be noted that TechCrunch stated that the social media behemoth has vouched about the existence of a custom URL for every business page. According to the speculation by TechCrunch, the existence of a URL of this nature validates the presence of the document.

According to a statement by Facebook to TechCrunch explains that the advertisements in Messenger will be intuitive and organic- particularly, in the start so that the users “do not experience unwanted messages of any type.” Thus, the leaked document clearly highlights that the message based ads will only be sent to those who have had a conversation with the company. They will not merely surface to all.

Recently, a press release was revealed by WhatsApp- which is an another Facebook product- in this release, emphasis was being laid on the fact that the advertisements will be organic.

By the start of this year, the company will test the tools that will enable WhatsApp to communicate with organizations and business with ease and accessibility. This means you can easily communicate with your bank regrading a fraudulent activity or contact your airline in case of  a delay in flight. Such messages do not really surface on WhatsApp but are governed via texts and calls. However, things will change when these features are rolled out on Whatsapp.

As per the recent earning call by Facebook, the company is devoted to establishing organic consumer-to-business interactions at scale before they start monetizing Messenger. This is similar to what Facebook did earlier where it launched Pages for business and once users were acquainted, they introduced paid advertisement on the platform. To promote interactions organically, the company came up with ways so that the user could conveniently message them. The company is also adding various other features to Messenger such as transactional international, ordering a Uber ride directly via Messenger.

If the history of Facebook suggests that the company has been successful in monetizing ads then this new breakthrough will also take the forward. The company is likely to emphasize on engagement when it comes to these ads so that the users do not get agitated.
